Healthy Party Tips!
Everyone loves a good party! Hanging out with our friends, laughing and having fun, that's what life is all about, right? But as great as parties are, we can find ourselves in some negative situations. Food and alcohol are usually heavily prevalent at parties and we can find ourselves dealing with temptations. Sometimes it's an awkward situation to say no to your friends or family. I always got the typical, "Oh you aren't eating enough, fill that plate up!" But there are definitely ways to avoid awkward things like this.
1. Bring a pre-food snack like veggies or fruit. People might say something if you aren't eating but if you keep your plate full, nobody will bug you. Snack slowly that way you avoid eating too fast and filling up on sugars.
2. Call ahead and ask what they are serving. If you are close with the party host or someone who is close to them, call and see what is on the menu. This way you can pre-track before you go and you know what is in store for you.
3. Sip slowly and bring your own alcohol. Skinny girl vodka is the shit, there are options that are lighter for you. Angry Orchard is also pretty low in points and they taste awesome too. Sip it slow that way too many people don't tell you, you need a refill.
4. Stand up when you are talking. Standing burns more calories, engage in a convo with some party guests and burn calories why you are doing it!
5. Participate in party games. Whether it's volleyball or swimming or croquet, get involved! Don't stand around, get active. This way you can kick some butt at something competitive and stay engaged, too!
6. Skip the dessert, or bring your own. As hard as this is to do, do you really need that piece of cake? It usually is never worth it. Have some fruit if you need something sweet, there are always better options. Don't damage all your hard work. However, if you have the points all figured out, go for it!
7. HAVE FUN! Sometimes we can focus too much on doing the right thing, and this can ruin our day. Make sure you do everything to have a great time. If you want to have a cheat day or you want to use your extra points, do it, but don't get down on yourself about it. Make the conscious decision before your day and don't get negative about it. If you feel confident in your losses and you think you can have a fun day to splurge, by all means do it! Don't get down on yourself because you ate a couple hot dogs, embrace it and move on to the next day.
Parties are supposed to be fun. Sometimes our weight loss journey can stress us out and cause us to not have a good time. We are focused too much on other people. Just do you. Do whatever you need to do to have a good time, and leave the stress at the house.
