Why Tracking is Important

On our weight loss journey it is important to keep tabs on everything we do.  Whether it is calculating activity points and keeping up with how much we exercise and keeping up on what we put into our body. Tracking your points/calories or whatever program you use is extremely essential.  This is important because we don't lose track of what we eat or put into our body.  When I was first starting out on my weight loss journey, I didn't track and I tried to do it all by memory.  This would cause me to overeat and I would always wonder why I wasn't losing weight. This confused me and would frustrate me and cause me to have negative feelings.  When I started with Weight Watchers, my leader talked about tracking.  I never thought about writing down what I ate, it seemed kinda silly. But I was up for anything and I was determined to lose.

For my first week, I took home a disposable tracker for the upcoming week. To start out, I just wrote everything as I ate it.  I lost the first week so it seemed to work. I started thinking though, what if I pre-wrote down everything I ate before I ate it.  That way I am stuck with eating what I wrote and I can't cheat myself out.  So I started doing that, and I started seeing bigger results. This tracking thing was working.  I wrote down everything that I put into my body, drinks, snacks, food, bite size candies. I did not cheat.  I stuck to my guns and the weight was coming off.

Writing down everything was working, so I invested in a 3 month tracker/food planner. I figured this would benefit me greatly. Once I got into a habit and started tracking, I started to get so heavily invested in it.  I would never want to screw it up, I would always get through my day and be ecstatic that I tracked perfectly.  It's a good feeling when you get through your day successfully and it leaves you fulfilled. Feeling this way is super important during your journey.  It builds up your confidence and helps you continue on feeling stronger than the previous day. Tracking helps you remember your day and doesn't lead you astray. It keeps you in check and holds you accountable.
